A recent study conducted at Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, the United States found that caffeine found in coffee helps improve a person's memory.
From the results of research conducted using caffeine pills or equivalent containing 200mg of caffeine in a cup of coffee, you drink after learning something, it makes much more powerful memory.
Researchers asked 100 participants to recall the image of an object, both inside and outside the room. They asked to see the pictures of the five minutes after taking the pill. Half the participants were given placebo pills that do not contain caffeine.
Participants also taken samples of saliva after three hours and 24 hours from the time they take pills, to determine the level of caffeine. The next day, participants were again asked to see pictures of similar objects, plus some random pictures.
Both groups of participants could identify the images, both new and old. But the group that drank caffeine pills, can identify images with more accuracy. While the group with the placebo pill difficulty determining new or old pictures.
Results were published in the journal Nature Neuroscience.
Neurological Dr. Michael Yassa said the research confirms that caffeine does have the ability to strengthen the memory."But with this study, we further know that the ability to focus on strengthening the memories that make us retain a memory of what we have learned before, "said Dr.. Yassa, quoted by the Daily Mail.
Memory center in the brain is located in the front part of the brain called the hippocampus. Until now there has been no research done to explain the effect of caffeine in the hippocampus in detail.
"If caffeine is consumed within 24 hours during learning, then our memory will not easily forget it, "said Dr. Yassa.
Furthermore, Dr. Yassa said joint research team will conduct further studies to determine the mechanism of action of the brain after caffeine stimulated."Thus we can map the workings of the brain in maintaining memory more systematically, "he said.
